Teddy Bears Picnic
The tune of this song was written by American composer and actor John W. Bratton (1867-1947) and dates from 1907. The words were added in 1932 by Northern Ireland's Jimmy Kennedy (1902-1984).
If you go out in the woods today, You're sure of a big surprise. If you go out in the woods today, You'd better go in disguise.
For every bear that ever there was Will gather there for certain, because Today's the day the Teddy bears have their picnic.
Refrain: Picnic time for Teddy bears, The little Teddy bears are having a lovely time today. Watch them, catch them unawares, And see them picnic on their holiday. See them gaily dance about. They love to play and shout, And never have any cares. At six o'clock their mummies and daddies Will take them home to bed Because they're tired little Teddy bears.
If you go out in the woods today, You'd better not go alone. It's lovely out in the woods today, But safer to stay at home.
For every bear that ever there was Will gather there for certain, because Today's the day the Teddy bears have their picnic.
Refrain
Every Teddy bear, that's been good Is sure of a treat today. There's lots of wonderful things to eat And wonderful games to play.
Beneath the trees, where nobody sees They'll hide and seek as long as they please. Today's the day the Teddy bears have their picnic.
Refrain
Teddy Bear By Elvis Presley
Baby let me be, Your lovin' Teddy Bear Put a chain around my neck, And lead me anywhere Oh let me be Your Teddy bear.
I don't wanna be a tiger 'Cause tigers play too rough I don't wanna be a lion 'Cause lions ain't the kind You love enough.
Just wanna be, your Teddy Bear Put a chain around my neck and lead me anywhere Oh let me be Your Teddy bear.
Baby let me be, around you every night Run your fingers through my hair, And cuddle me real tight Oh let me be Your Teddy bear.
I don't wanna be a tiger 'Cause tigers play too rough I don't wanna be a lion 'Cause lions ain't the kind You love enough.
Oh, let me be, Your Teddy Bear Put a chain around my neck, And lead me anywhere Oh let me be Your Teddy bear.
Oh let me be Your Teddy bear. I just want to be your Teddy Bear.
The Bear Necessities By Terry Gilkyson
Performed by Phil Harris (Baloo) and Bruce Reitherman (Mowgli) in the 1967 Disney animated feature film, "The Jungle Book."
Look for the bare necessities The simple bare necessities Forget about your worries and your strife I mean the bare necessities Old Mother Nature's recipes That brings the bare necessities of life
Wherever I wander, wherever I roam I couldn't be fonder of my big home The bees are buzzin' in the tree To make some honey just for me When you look under the rocks and plants And take a glance at the fancy ants Then maybe try a few
The bare necessities of life will come to you They'll come to you!
Look for the bare necessities The simple bare necessities Forget about your worries and your strife I mean the bare necessities That's why a bear can rest at ease With just the bare necessities of life
Now when you pick a pawpaw Or a prickly pear And you prick a raw paw Next time beware Don't pick the prickly pear by the paw
When you pick a pear Try to use the claw But you don't need to use the claw When you pick a pear of the big pawpaw Have I given you a clue?
The bare necessities of life will come to you They'll come to you!
So just try and relax, yeah cool it Fall apart in my backyard 'Cause let me tell you something little britches If you act like that bee acts, uh uh You're working too hard
And don't spend your time lookin' around For something you want that can't be found When you find out you can live without it And go along not thinkin' about it I'll tell you something true
The bare necessities of life will come to you
(Reprise) Look for the bare necessities The simple bare necessities Forget about your worries and your strife I mean the bare necessities Old Mother Nature's recipes With just the bare necessities of life
In the Bag
"In the Bag" is a Disney short film by Tom Wilkins that was released on July 27, 1956, and features Humphrey the Bear and Ranger Audobon J. Woodlore.
In the animated film, the summer visitors have finally left and Ranger Woodlore sets upon a plan to get the bears to help him clean up the park. He gets them cleaning and dancing to a snappy work song, but once the bears realize it's a trick, he is forced to find another strategy: bribery!
My brother, sister, and I used to whistle the tune and add the "bomp, bomp"s, but now we and you may sing it with the words:
First you stick a rag, put it in the bag. (bomp bomp) Then you bend your back, put it in the sack. (bomp bomp) That's the way it's done, it's a lot of fun. (bomp bomp) Cutting capers, putting papers in the bag.
The Bear
The words in parentheses are the echo from the audience
The other day, (The other day) I met a bear, (I met a bear) Away up there, (Away up there) A great big bear! (A great big bear!)
The other day I met a bear, A great big bear a way up there!
He looked at me (He looked at me) I looked at him (I looked at him) He sized up me (He sized up me) I sized up him (I sized up him)
He looked at me, I looked at him, He sized up me, I sized up him.
He said to me (He said to me) "Why don't you run? ("Why don't you run?) I see you don't (I see you don't) Have any gun" (Have any gun")
He said to me, "Why don't you run? I see you don't have any gun."
And so I ran (And so I ran) Away from there (Away from there) And right behind (And right behind) Me was that bear (Me was that bear)
And so I ran away from there, And right behind me was a that bear.
Ahead of me (Ahead of me) I saw a tree (I saw a tree) A great big tree (A great big tree) Oh, golly gee! (Oh, golly gee!)
Ahead of me there was a tree, A great big tree, oh, golly gee!
The lowest branch (The lowest branch) Was ten feet up (Was ten feet up) I had to jump (I had to jump) And trust my luck (And trust my luck)
The lowest branch was ten feet up, I had to jump and trust my luck.
And so I jumped (And so I jumped) Into the air (Into the air) And missed that branch (And missed that branch) Away up there (Away up there)
And so I jumped into the air, And missed that branch away up there.
Now don't you fret (Now don't you fret) And don't you frown (And don't you frown) I caught that branch (I caught that branch) On the way back down (On the way back down)
Now don't you fret and don't you frown, I caught that branch on the way back down.
That's all there is (That's all there is) There is no more (There is no more) Until I meet (Until I meet) That bear once more (That bear once more)
That's all there is, there is no more, Until I meet that bear once more.
The end, the end (The end, the end) The end, the end (The end, the end) The end, the end (The end, the end) The end, the end! (The end, the end!)
The end, the end, the end, the end, This time it really is the end!
Another version begins:
The other day (group repeats), I met a bear (group repeats), With tennis shoes (group repeats), a dandy pair(group repeats).
The other day, I met a bear, With tennis shoes, a dandy pair.
And inserts the following verse between the "Now don't you fret" and the "That's all there is" verses:
The moral is (group repeats), No shocking news (group repeats), Don't talk to bears (group repeats), In tennis shoes (group repeats).
The moral is, no shocking news, Don't talk to bears, in tennis shoes.
Little Ted Bear
I'm told Fred Harris would sing this song in reference to Big Ted and Little Ted on the UK children's show "Play School" but being a born-and-bred Yankee, I can't say for sure....
Little Ted Bear, from nowhere in particular, Nowhere in particular, Nowhere at all, Walked from here to there, And climbed the perpendicular, Climbed the perpendicular, Cupboard wall.
Then when his search was ended, Down the wall he slid, And when he had descended, Do you know what he did? Little Ted Bear went nowhere in particular, Nowhere in particular, flat or perpendicular, Nowhere at all.
Benjie and the Bear
Another I can't confirm, but I believe this is typically sung in a "round" much like "Row, Row, Row Your Boat"....
Benjie met the bear The bear met Benjie The bear had a bulge The bulge was Benjie
Colargol's Theme Song
Colargol is also known as Barnaby the Bear in the UK and other English-speaking markets and as Jeremy the Bear in Canada.
The English Version
Barnaby the Bear's my name, Never call me Jack or James, I will sing my way to fame, Barnaby the Bear's my name.
Birds taught me to sing, When they took me to their king, First I had to fly, In the sky so high, So high, so high, so high so high.
So if you want to sing this way, Think of what you'd like to say, Add a tune and you will see, Just how easy it can be.
Treacle pudding, fish and chips, Fizzy drinks and licorice, Flowers, rivers, sand and sea, Snowflakes and the stars are free, La la la la…. So,
Barnaby the Bear's my name, Never call me Jack or James, I will sing my way to fame, Barnaby the Bear's my name.
